Where I come from, the winter holiday's called the Glacier Spirits Festival. But everybody not from the South Pole calls it The Southern Water Tribe Winter Festival.
It's when both water tribes, north and south, get together to celebrate their ancestors and the spirits that watch over us. It used to be really serious, all about meditating and fasting and contemplating the year in silence. But that was a long time ago, now it's like a big party where everybody has fun and exchanges little gifts and honors the spirits by embracing life with a carnival.
Oh, and there's plays and dances and things. And a huge feast in honor of the tribe chiefs. It lasts for a week.
Kind of sounds like how people celebrate Christmas to me. Sometimes, people go to chruch during that time and sing a lot! And how they put on plays about the holiday too!
It doesn't sound that much different to me! I think it'll be pretty cool to celebrate that festival too!
It sort of is, but the kinds of plays and things we do are a LOT different.
I don't really celebrate it here, since...I can't go home for it, and that's really important. And nobody else knows the stories or the legends or the dances or anything really.
Then please do! I really want to be able to celebrate as many holidays as we can get around here! Especially when that means we get to party as much as we can too!
[So Asami likes to think she's done a good job preparing for this Valentine's Day with such short notice and a limited budget, never mind keeping it all a surprise. She can't do much about their day starting off in a tent, though.
Once she's awake enough she lazily rolls over onto Korra, pressing a kiss to her cheek.]
[Korra's not a morning person. She shifts sleepily, mumbling and wrapping her arms around Asami and attempts to burrow them deeper into the blankets and sleeping bag. And what's more romantic than cuddling lazily in bed? She's not lazy, she's being cute!]
Why do you have to give me such difficult choices?
[Because yes, presents are good things. And she has something for Asami, too. Not to mention Plans. But it's so nice and warm and comfortable, curled up in bed. Even if bed was a camping set up.]
[Asami was making a very stirring argument. Korra opens her eyes and yawns lazily, starting to stir properly. Yeah, a trip to the Treetop Adventure Park was something worth getting out of bed for. She'd seen the signs for it, but hadn't had a chance to check it out.]
[Until now.]
That's really hard to argue with. Really hard. [She's grinning.] As long as we still have time for dinner and dancing at Azalea's hottest jazz club, 'cause we've got reservations.
[Now that's a happy coincidence; Asami's face lights up at the mention of the jazz club.]
Oh, we'll definitely have time for that. [She gives Korra a quick kiss before untangling herself from the blankets so she can start to get dressed.] Did you want your gift now, or do you want to wait until tonight?
[Korra mumbles an affirmative as she pulls her shirt over her head. Little by little, she resumes full functions. Before long, she's dressed and presentable and offering Asami a cup of coffee.]
Who'd have thought the only town with an adventure park would be the town with the best jazz clubs?
[It kind of seems like a random combination, but Korra's not complaining. It worked out perfectly.]
[When they're both dressed and have their coffee, Asami pulls two packages out of her pack and slides them over to Korra: the larger is read and in the shape of a heart with a smaller, white box on top wrapped with a blue ribbon.]
I know you don't like traditional jewelry, so I tried to find something you'd like.
[It's a simple leather bracelet with images of pokemon carved into it in a style reminiscent of the Water Tribe's, tied together by bands ending in small, polished blue stones.]
[On the day of February 14th, should they look at their communicator, they might see a message from one young Mabel Pines!]
Hey, you! You there! Yes, I’m talking to you! I’m just here to wish you a super duper Happy Valentine’s Day! May you get a lot of love and candy from everyone around you!
[They'd settled down for a break during their traveling and it was while she was browsing through her notes that she realized the date. Walter's celebration was happening tomorrow and that meant if she was going she needed to figure out her plans and get a move on.]
I need to take a small detour to Johto. It would probably be best if I left tonight and then I could come home either tomorrow night or the next morning.
[She looks thoughtful as she says it, Tseng, who was seated beside her, peering at her notes.]
A friend of mine is holding an end of Summer celebration and invited me to attend so I could see the celebration in person. [Cissnei pauses before offering the other young woman a grin.] You're welcome to travel with me but Walter is a bit...hesitant about strangers so you'd be stuck trying food in Ecruteak alone.
[Korra can understand someone who's nervous about strangers. And she can be a very loud and boisterous stranger. She gets it.]
I probably ought to pop out to my hut and check on things, actually. I don't really have a house, like most people get when they settle down, I just found a place out in the woods where nobody was and built a hut.
