She couldn't even revel in her newly returned face as she settled in for the night in her bathrobe and pajamas. The day had been physically and emotionally exhausting. She was ready for it to be over.
But there was still the matter of the picture that had apparently appeared in her pocket today. Asami avoided thinking about Dad as much as she could. She told herself that she had forgiven him, and that was that.
Yet she couldn't look at his picture without feeling sick.
Then there had been that thing today. Tearing holes in reality and attacking everything around it. And she had found Korra running right at it. Of course she had. That was what Korra did.
But it was scary. It was scary in a rare kind of way that forced rational thought to scatter.
Asami took a heavy, shuddering breath as she settled on the side of the bed. Her eyes ached, but she didn't want to cry here. Not after the day they had all had.
Korra couldn't believe it was over, just like that. Everybody back where they ought to be, a cure for the pokification, and just in time for that holiday people kept mentioning.
Not that her mind was anywhere near holidays at the moment.
She was just finishing up getting ready for bed, happy to be able to shower without smelling like wet dog. She hadn't exactly missed just how much the giant thing had effected Asami. The way the other woman had pulled her away from it...
It had been a year for Asami, but that didn't mean much. Korra knew all too well how long things could stay with a person. And she wasn't sure that Asami had really talked it out with anyone. She hoped, but....Asami had a way of keeping things in. She'd wanted to talk to her about it, but hadn't been sure how to bring it up.
She came out of the bathroom in a t-shirt and loose pajama bottoms, and slipped onto the bed next to Asami.
"Hey." Asking if she was okay just seemed dumb. Instead, she just reached for the other woman's hand.
[So Asami likes to think she's done a good job preparing for this Valentine's Day with such short notice and a limited budget, never mind keeping it all a surprise. She can't do much about their day starting off in a tent, though.
Once she's awake enough she lazily rolls over onto Korra, pressing a kiss to her cheek.]
[Korra's not a morning person. She shifts sleepily, mumbling and wrapping her arms around Asami and attempts to burrow them deeper into the blankets and sleeping bag. And what's more romantic than cuddling lazily in bed? She's not lazy, she's being cute!]
[On the day of February 14th, should they look at their communicator, they might see a message from one young Mabel Pines!]
Hey, you! You there! Yes, I’m talking to you! I’m just here to wish you a super duper Happy Valentine’s Day! May you get a lot of love and candy from everyone around you!
[They'd settled down for a break during their traveling and it was while she was browsing through her notes that she realized the date. Walter's celebration was happening tomorrow and that meant if she was going she needed to figure out her plans and get a move on.]
I need to take a small detour to Johto. It would probably be best if I left tonight and then I could come home either tomorrow night or the next morning.
[She looks thoughtful as she says it, Tseng, who was seated beside her, peering at her notes.]
A friend of mine is holding an end of Summer celebration and invited me to attend so I could see the celebration in person. [Cissnei pauses before offering the other young woman a grin.] You're welcome to travel with me but Walter is a bit...hesitant about strangers so you'd be stuck trying food in Ecruteak alone.
[Korra can understand someone who's nervous about strangers. And she can be a very loud and boisterous stranger. She gets it.]
I probably ought to pop out to my hut and check on things, actually. I don't really have a house, like most people get when they settle down, I just found a place out in the woods where nobody was and built a hut.
[Things had finally gone back to normal..well, as normal as things could be. Nightmares were still lingering for Cissnei but she was doing her best to deal with it, her Ghost Pokemon aiding her where they could. She and Korra had ended up on Six island at the end of it all and it was nice to be somewhere less haunting and more warm and welcoming.
Even if it was a bit difficult to enjoy it all right now.
Six Island was definitely a more relaxed island than the others they had visited and Cissnei was glad for the change. It gave her a chance to just relax and collect her thoughts, get herself back to normal.
She had left most of her Pokemon back at the hotel they were staying at for the time being though Reno and Shuriken had refused to leave her alone, tagging along as she headed out to explore the town. All of the residents she met were pleasant and easy going and by the time she settled on the beach she was feeling better. Reno was dozing on his back in the sand beside her while Shuriken padded about closer to the water, nosing at shells and startling a few other Pokemon in the process. Cissnei was staring out at the water, hands resting behind her with her fingers buried in the sand, attempting to find that same peace she had been experiencing before all the nightmares.
It was just..difficult to forget everything she had seen in that forest...]
[Cissnei isn't the only one still bothered by what had happened in the nightmare forest.]
[Korra's fears have never been so stark and clear before. She'd seen herself, in her middle age, and the life had been so nice...but not hers. It was some hell she'd been trapped in. It's too close to real life, too much a possibility.]
[As always, when she's feeling troubled, Korra's at the water's edge. Iqniq is with her, and even his presence is mildly unsettling. She loves the Arcanine. He's her constant companion, her sidekick through thick and thin. And he's part of this world. There are so many good things in this world, so many possibilities. And she's seen it as a nightmare. She doesn't want that. She knows she's trapped here but she doesn't want it to feel like a trap, she's going to go crazy if she feels like that much longer.]
[She slows as she sees Cissnei down the beach. She hasn't asked about what happened to the other woman, she doesn't need to ask to know it wasn't great.]
[It's been a while since she's talked to Korra, and given that her stupid ugly fish finally managed to evolve after so. much. work. she feels like maybe she ought to pop in and let Korra know about it.
The video opens dramatically on one singular Pokeball sitting by itself, before Chloe flips the camera and offers a peace sign.]
Yooo, long time no see. I just felt you'd be stoked to know that because of you I caught one of those stupid fish, andddd... dragon time!
[She gestures to the ball.
She's very clearly not. actually letting it out of the ball, which she hope Korra doesn't notice.
It's still really angry in general. Which, relatable buuut she doesn't want to destroy the city or anything. Or herself.]
Hey, congrats! I know it's a pain training them up, but it's so worth it!
If you can get to the islands where it's warm and there's beaches, riding a Gyarados in the ocean is awesome!
[Korra does notice that said Gyarados isn't out, but they're giant sea dragons, it's not always the best idea to let them out. She doesn't really question it.]
i've been pretty good! got some more pokemon. one of them's a dinosaur guy! well, gal. she doesn't seem to remember her old name and also i can't pronounce it, so i've gotta think of one for her.
uh...my furret's started skin diving! i dunno where he learned, either, but after every storm...he's out there, diving for neat wreckage that might have washed up.
[As expected, there's the package of sweets as a Christmas present from Botan. But that's not all! It seems Korra got a necklace in Pidgey post today, looks like an ice stone.]
Korra--expert damsel rescuer,
I had a hard time thinking of what to get to sum up what an important piece in my life you've been with the madness we all deal with being here. Halloween was a bust, but I'm glad I got to spend it with you, not to mention the escapes to the island.
[New Year's Day, Korra will find a small package of mochi (colored pink, of course, though that's not the tradition) along with a card giving New Year's greetings. The card simply reads "Happy New Year, wish you were here" and contains a picture of Botan with her Pokemon. She's making a heart hands gesture and appears to be wearing a very special kimono, smiling bright as always.
The Fire Stone necklace she mentioned in her last letter to Korra is around her neck and unintentionally is brought attention to by Botan's gesture framing it.]
Edited (gotta make it more gay) 2019-01-01 03:37 (UTC)
[Korra goes back and forth over the package all morning. She paces the length of her tiny house, which mostly means walking in a circle, staring at the contents on the table and debating what to do about them. About everything.]
[But she's been around and lived enough to know one thing: there's never any pro-bending match if both teams just stand on their starters and make vague gestures in each other's direction. One side has to do something.]
[Later in the evening, Korra sends a short text to Botan's gear.]
got your card. and everything else.
you know it doesn't take me too long to get to goldenrod.
Yeah, I'm a lifeguard in the islands and I do a fair amount of kicking Rocket butt in my spare time. Lots of giving Jennies reports and calling them to come pick dudes up. And I did some private security work before that, and the same thing. Lots of reports and calling Jennies.
Kksshhhtttt--this is Big Daddy. Toadie, do you read me?
[Yes, JW is bored on Halloween. He's hiding out in his hotel room because he does NOT want to see what this world has up its sleeve as far as supernatural-themed holidays go.]
You were supposed to be at the--kksshhhttt--docks and hour ago, what gives?
[What the hell? Korra is making the best of Halloween, or trying to, and it takes her a minute to realize just what this call is. That guy. The one from the bathroom. The one she'd gotten into a weird gangster phone game with.]
[And it's apparently still going.]
Toadie ain't here, see. Had a little too much spiked cider, see, he's sleeping it off now.
You gotta watch your boys better, Big Daddy. Lack of professionalism, you hate to see it.
